I am new to this site but within a week I find it seems to be overwhelmingly Scots and tory-based. Not that there's anything wrong with that but am I the only reader of the Indy, The Guardian & The Observer.

Welcome zita - green and you'll soon be zita-grey.

I read the Guardian & The Observer for the writing and for the crosswords. I have commitments on another site for these and the xwords in Times , Indy & Mephisto in the Sunday Times.

I think you will find that Sundays are filled mainly with the Mail, Fridays with the Listener, Thursdays Spectator , EV late Sunday and the Scots & Irish solvers evenly through the week.
The Telegraph readers have, in large part, gone to a new site set up by an ex Answerbanker.

And I don't fit the profile at all - being an Aussie, I read our local papers but have the Telegraph Crossword and Herculis emailed as I love good GK puzzles, but am totally hopeless at cryptics.

I'm English and (Old) Labour - I buy the Mail and Express just for the crosswords and tut at the racist, reactionary bigotry. I read the Times, The Guardian and The Private Eye for the REAL news.

Thanks to all for your welcome and comments. I think I misunderstood. I accessed this site from the Guardian's crossword site and assumed that other solvers would be doing the same. Assumptions are presumptuous. By the way, why will I soon be zita-grey?

After you have been visiting the site for about a month (possibly a shorter time) your name on the site changes from being printed in green (a newbie) to being printed in grey/black (an old hand).
So zita-green printed in green will soon become zita-green printed in grey !
