Water Filter Jug

I want to buy a water filter jug as our water here is so hard that the kettle is full of it, the thing is I have looked on Tesco's site and don't know which jug goes with which filters or vise versa, so confused, any advice please TIA

Have you considered buying a tap which gives filtered water off the main? much more convenient and the filtration cost is about the same. Amazon also have good deals if you aren't tied to tesco.

My drinking water filter ( plumbed in - much easier than having a jug) does not significantly reduce lime-scale. Hard water is good for you - people in soft-water areas have more heart attacks.

atalanta is spot-on. The highest incidence of heart disease matches the areas of the country with the softest water, and vice versa.
chessington- ever thought of descaling the kettle occasionally and rinsing it out after every use?

My plumbed in filter does an excellent job.
atalanta, have you got a validated medical reference for the hard water/soft water statement please? It used to be thought that there was a difference but i think its been disproved.

A plumbed in one is great. Saves buying bottled water.

We filter ours to get rid of the faint whiff of chlorine.

For the first week the water comes out with so little calcium that the kettle actually descales itself. However our water is so hard that the filter is rapidly overwhelmed and the kettle starts furring up again.

thanks all of you, I have descaled the kettle AGAIN, I rinse all the time, got a water jug thingy from Tesco this morning, being diabetic am prone to stroke and heart attack anyway, but useful info about that

Hi, chessington, you've probably got your filter jug by now, but if not, I'd recommend the Brita ones. OK, the filters aren't cheap, but they last for 4 weeks each and you can usually get them on offer in one of the supermarkets.

I've got a fantastic water filter. It takes out all the crap and, most importantly, fluoride.

Mine too, MadMen. I first bought it when I lived "down South" and there was so much chlorine in the tap water it tasted awful and it used to make my poor pet tarantula really distressed when I sprayed her (another story!). Anyway, now I have my own water supply, but there's quite a lot of manganese and copper in it, so I'm glad I've got the filter jug. It makes the water taste lovely - pure!

I have a Brita filtered jug kettle and the filter goes in there. It's an option.
