...that seem to grow in the garden. I'm unsure if this was a part of some seed packet I sprinkled in the border, or a weed; I suspect the latter because it is so invasive. I've let it be this year but think I may need to clear it out. Anyone know what it might be ?

Cheers.

Always be careful with purple plants. Many of them can be dangerous if consumed and sometimes even touched. However, looks like a purple toad flax https://www.rhs.org.uk/Plants/55263/Linaria-purpurea-Canon-Went/Details

OG what kind of leafs does it have?
Could be a purple penstemon. Like it and would leave it alone if it was in my garden.

Lots of options then. It did look ok so I left it this year, but it's taken the whole border.

Leaves ? Well long and narrow, coming out as 'star clusters' at intervals along the stalk.
Question Author
Should say that it's looking it's best in the photo, not all are quite as good looking.
Question Author
It looks quite near. Not 100% convinced, but looks nearest of the suggestions so far.
I'm with spath on this one.

Linaria purpurea aka purple toadflax. it should have grassy type leaves.
Question Author
Well I'm away from home again so can't recheck for a few days but, yes, Linaria purpurea looks suspiciously close.
Definitely purple toadflax, hoverflies love it so don't get rid of it all
Definitely, absolutely definitely, Erysimum (Bowles Mauve)
Question Author
Thanks. To be honest, that looks less like it than the Linaria purpurea though.
