Been Shopping?

I’ve been shopping more than the average person should right now. This is because i’m shopping for some high risk people as well as my self.

I’ve noticed in the past couple of days that items considered “panic” items, rice, pasta, loo roll, soaps etc.. they’re all coming back to the shelves in major chains and certainly in smaller corner shops.

Hopefully you may find this reassuring.

I suspect it is due to the new restrictions and procedures in supermarkets.

No here they're not. On Friday, no pasta, no rice, no hand soap or sanitiser. There was however, about 6 packs of 24 loo rolls

Not done any panic buying myself, and local shop was restocked yesterday so plenty of food available.

Throughout the hardship i’ve tried to advise stores to go, ZM, lidl due to its unique stock (different to major chains) has been sufficient in supply.

All i’m saying now is that i’ve noticed the major chains bouncing back

Bobbi hate to think how much over bought food will end up in the bin, what a waste of food and money.

The problem is that local supermarket warehouses were/are full of Easter eggs and Mothers day flowers. Hence loads of cheap or free flowers in the past week [well at my local Morrisons anyway].

Now they are clearing that they can bring in 'proper' stock. This was told to my son last week [he works in Morrisons].
If people now just buy what they need there really shouldn't be a problem :)

I just popped to the corner shop with my trolley and bought milk, eggs, pizza, frozen veg and loads of other things. £40 spent where normally would spend about £20 but didn't want to go far as I've been feeling rough the last few weeks. Pretty sure not virus related but you never know.

I'm 'high risk' (due to chemotherapy) but still doing my own shopping.

I got loo rolls, kitchen rolls and pasta (and lots more stuff) in Waitrose on Thursday, without any problems. There was only a short queue to get in when I arrived and the queue had gone completely when I left (despite only a handful of shoppers being allowed in the store at any one time).

I hope you feel better soon, Tiggerblue, but my own policy on travelling long distances to shop is exactly the opposite of yours.

My local Co-op is stuffy and oppressive at the best of times, despite the air conditioning they fitted a while back, and the aisles are very narrow. So I simply don't feel safe shopping in there.

Instead I undertake a 30-mile round trip to get to Waitrose. It's a flagship store for them, being the only one in the country that's been purpose-built to include both Waitrose and John Lewis within the same building. (Obviously, the John Lewis part is currently closed). So it's got wide, spacious, airy aisles, where I feel that the air that I'm breathing is far less likely to be contaminated than in the Co-op down the road.

Tesco seem well organised, like the ad suggests, the only thing of note for myself was missing was no eggs.

The longer I stay home, the more scared I am of going shopping. I was lucky enough to get an online delivery slot for tomorrow, and have just added to it to save going to a real store for a month or so.

In the meantime we have a local food outlet where we can buy fresh milk, fruit and veg and newspapers once a week. Its clean and they are operating a one in one out system which makes me feel reasonably safe.

Please try to go less often The Devil, ask your high riskers to write a long list and reduce the trips. The more often you go shopping the higher risk you and they become. Stay safe, stay home.

Not seen loo roll at our local Lidl (or any other supermarket for that matter) since this started.

We have been just buying as usual from the tesco local or whatever it is called along with the local small shops - as we always do. Luckily I had just done our big monthly before it all blew up.

Asian shop down the road where we get out meat, eggs and rice have always had plenty - no queues and cheaper than the supermarkets. Plenty of spices too :-)
