An Old Actor
An old actor had been out of work for a few years. He auditioned for a part in a period drama at the Liverpool Empire theatre.
All he had to do was on cue to shout out, "Hark I hear the sounds of the cannons."
He rehearsed it over and over: "Hark I hear the sounds of the cannons."
On the train into Lime street he kept repeating: "Hark I hear the sounds of the cannons."
He arrived slightly late at the theatre and was dressed quickly and pushed onto the stage just in time for his cue. Just then
there was a boom and the old actor turned and shouted: "What the bloody hell was that?"
