When I was in Lewis after one particularly great night there was a song played that was kind if a rousing song. The lyrics towards the end meant (I think) goodnight my lovely. However as that bit of the song was in gaelic although I remember what those words sounded like I've got no hope of googling them as the no doubt are nit spelt the way they sound. The words sounded something like ikey var mahar, came in at the end. I got the impression the song is normally played at the end of parties. Anyone identify it?

Can't help with the song but I know the Gaelic for "good night" is "oidhche mhath" which sounds a bit like "oichy vaah".

thanks all, it isnt any of them. It might well be the song itself was in english, with the gaelic coming in a t the end
Did you hear it on the radio? Was it a band in a pub? Tv? Most would be checkable.
Friend is a professional singer who sings in the Gaelic. Will pass your query to her and fingers crossed.
We have a lovely local girl who sings in Irish - her name is Grainne Holland - if she is on YouTube - you may be able to hear the song.

I got my Irish in junior level - many moons ago but remember very little of it.

Do remember loads of French tho.
I finds it hard to think what the song could be with the letters provided as those letters are not in the Irish language - only 18 letters not counting letters we would add a fada to and the only rousing song I can think would be played at the end of Amhrán na bhFiann but that's a longshot as the is the National Anthem
^^ I meant - some of the letters in OP are not in the alphabet
Ducksie - as you say you would need to know the Irish language. Recall an MP Gregory Campbell - yakking about something and he said
Go raibh maith agat sounded like Curry my yogurt.

Oh boy were the Irish language people offended. I roared my leg off as I thought it was funny.
Oh JennyJ, that is funny - I too would laugh - understanding the MP had no word of Irish haha
I wonder could it be Óró Sé do Bheatha Bhaile (Bh sounds like V)

its deffo oidhche mhath as corby said (i got google to say it and that was deffo it)
it's just the song now!
bed - good luck with that - as Irish language is not easy.
Tiocfaidh ár lá as an example - I would say "Chucky Ar La".
Whilst I can't remember the Irish language as such - I do write in the very old fashioned Irish way. My friend and nephew who speak fluent Irish have said it is fabulous. I am very proud of being able to remember as I left school when I was 16.

Sorry Bed LOL - for digressing. I do like to bum bum.
Not very rousing but it is sung at the end of gatherings and the last line of each verse starts with ‘good night’
