midhurst The story goes that the inventor of the table football game wanted to name it HOBBY - but was refused on the grounds that this was a generic name and could not be claimed by one particular person or company.

The bird HOBBY has the Latin name Falco Subbuteo. Consequently, the inventor suggested SUBBUTEO and this alternative was approved.

Even if this version is not true, it makes for a nice story!
