MM Links Solutions October 2010 [Week 5]

For his final week, Strix maintained a more or less gentle standard for his last set of link words, namely:

Oil SLICK
GREASE Paint
FIELD Fare
STAIR Well

Scoring proved quite brisk ~ particularly amongst the early birds!

It was “first come first served”, when teacher1 made a slick opening with OIL SLICK for TWO POINTS and was soon followed by rockfordill with the same hit for the same reward. I was then surprised by an early entry from wickedtongue who found FIELD FARE for yet another TWO POINTS. He was closely followed by Christiana, ulysses100, gen2 and (eventually) cliffyg with the same Field Fare all in good time. The last to beat the clock was seekeerz with Oil Slick. Each earned their Two Points.

Tucked in amongst these came the enigmatic slaney (in a vain attempt to avoid attention) and walked straight into Strix’ trap. Not only did she break new ground with GREASE PAINT, but she also augmented this with Field Fare for FOUR POINTS to enhance her position at the top of the leader board. This spectacular performance qualifies her to be awarded the title as HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK.

The crowds go wild and shout “Encore”

Thereafter there came a lengthy barren spell until 11.23 when Entrant #30 in the form of joto entered the stage to claim the final link with STAIR WELL for the last TWO POINTS. Yet another barren spell followed until the game closed down with roslyn251254 and ladyalex each picking up One Point for the ever popular “Field Fare”.

With the third reign of Strix at an end, the top of the League Table is as follows:

THIRTEEN POINTS: slaney

SIX POINTS: Aquagility, gen2, grannydi, owllady, rockfordill, tearinghair & wickedtongue

THREE POINTS: barb777, ChrisHewat, Elspeth, Mr Ont-ice & seekeerz

The first 14 scorers are all ex-MM Link Champions ~ and some are already multi-ex-champions! After almost four years of play, it is inevitable that cream will rise to the top more than once. The next Royal Setter of the Links surely picks herself ~ as the person who rises head and shoulders above all others, I humbly invite slaney to accept the challenge to take us into Winter as a Triple MM Links Champion.

Next week, we shall begin with a clean sheet. Will you be there to make your mark as a November Contestant? I’ll be there to look out for you!
