strange weather

This years weather has been colder than I can remember. I'm 41. Is there a chance that earthquake did more than was first thought or am I just looking for soemthing to blame and the great british summers have always been like this.

I know back in April they forcast a very hot summer, so where is it. is the Met Office keeping it to themselves.

well, firstly global warming and the lesser-known global dimming could be to blame. they're slowly playing havoc with the seasons.

secondly, people remember the nice days and forget the bad weather days (usually). maybe because people naturally look on the bright side, or perhaps its because people do more on nice days, so have more things to remember?

The seasons are definitly shifting. I am 42 and I remember long hot summers & 2 foot of snow winters - year in - year out. I think a major change came about late 80's / early 90's. I have no answer but ponder the question of nuclear testing. Has the earth been knocked from it's original orbit? and what about rocket launches? In physics we learn every action has an eaqual and opposite reaction. Every launch of several tons of rocket from Cape Canaveral surely must have some effect!

yes, this is true. But a rocket has a far smaller mass than the earth. Thus it's force exertion is far smaller too. So I don't think rockets make that much difference.

Maybe nuclear testing though. But with no knowledge of the actual size of a force this can produce, I have no real idea.

I don't think you can adequetly state that the Earth's seasons are shifting for good. 42 years is not really a long enough time span for an actual observation in the earth's seasonal changes...it could just be a minor fluxuation in the bigger picture. I'm denying that things could be getting colder in summer and/or warmer in winter...but it could just be for a short while.

It's interesting to hear the therorys though. Yes I suppose 41 years isn't long enough to gage the weather and whats it's doing. I been sitting here with my water cooled air conditioner  Just glad I can get back into my room without melting. When I get to 100 I'll ask the same question again and see what answers I get.
