Died of shock
The vet tells me that a wild animal that is hunted and caught may 'die of shock'. My dogs had cornered a muntjac deer, which I rescued from them. The deer had no obviously serious injury yet passed out and died after a while , that is 'died of shock'. First, what exactly is killing the animal, what is 'shock' ? Second, what evolutionary benefit, if any, could there be to a species in having death by shock when a physical injury or wound is not fatal?
