Pressure and effects of space on a living organism

Have any live creatures been released into space to see the effects of space on them? We have our theories on pressure, heat, cold and lack of oxygen but what is the reality if lets say we released a large mammal into space, what exactly would happen?

When you said "large" mammals I was picturing elephants, tigers, wildebeest, etc, floating around in Space.

I take a few daily supplements anyway, so I thought one more would be easy.

The Soviets put a dog called Leika into space. When its air ran out it would have died.

Wildebeest would be ideal. There are millions of them. They are always in giant stampeding herds on the telly.

The crew of Soyuz 11 died when their cabin depressurised during re-entry so to some extent we already know - or at least the Russians do.

No need to go to space, a vacuum can be created on earth easy enough.

And experiments have been done, both on animals and on humans (concentration camp prisoners)

As in have any mammals been released into space. What exactly do you mean by animals and concentration camp prisoners have had experiments on them as Im referring to space and not lab experiments.
