why are ppl so certain the world is not going to end 2012 when you really think about how small our little planet is it could all end anytime.this planet isnt going to last forever

who is certain? A few eejits who belive in a book of fairy tales and David Icke Who is on about his 5th apocolypse, Hardly people in general. This reminds me of the year that the JW's had a huge get together at Bournemouth Football stadium in 1999, part of the proceedings included the prediction that the world would end on 31/12. I had a mate who worked there who told me that they had already booked the stadium for the following year!

We can't be certain but in the scheme of things it's unlikely

No-one can be certain that the world won't end in 2012, but the point is it's no more likely to end that year than any other. Since it hasn't ended in any of the other predicted years the probability of it ending in 2012 is exceedingly small (but of course not zero) as there are no other factors which make it more likely.

The only reason that there is any kind of discussion about whether or not the world will end in 2012 is because a few whackaloons who prefer conspiracy and speculation over fact and observation think that because the Mayan calendar comes to an end, so will the world.

Its possible that "the world" will end in 2012, but not very likely.

You fail to define what you mean when you say "the world is going to end" anyway. Do you mean humanity? or all species? or the planet itself?

Why do you think nuclear war is any more likely now than it was a decade or so ago?Why do you think that nuclear war would wipe out humanity anyway?

Why on earth do you think that the LHC offers any risk of "ending the world"? Only whackaloons and scientific illiterates think that......

Scientists tell us that the average global temperature will rise by X dergees over the next 40 years.
If the globe wasn't going to exist for 40 years they'd all be wrong, And I'd hate to argue with the climate scientists!
