there have been thousands of claims of the end of the world and they've all been wrong.
So when we see another we have to ask Why? How is the world going to end.
The answer comes back an ancient American calander will end then.
So we ask why should be believe them when they could not even invent the wheel?
We don't even know that they truely thought the world would end then.
It makes as much sense as thinking that the world will end when we run out of car number plate values

It's going to be such an anticlimax, like when people kept saying the workld was going to implode or be sucked into a black hole created by that particle collider in belgium and everyone was saying how ironic it would be if one of the msot peaceful countries in the world destroyed the world. But I happened to be in a science lesson with the awesome and much loved physcis teacher that is now my form tutor and he was trying to explain how it works and convince us how it was going to be 'impossible' for it to destroy the world.

It will take a lot to wipe out humanity with our current geographic dispursal - I doubt a nuclear war could do it alone.
A nuclear war combined with a major health issue perhaps or my money would be on a supervolcano or manle plume like the Deccan traps.
Something on that scale

yes, but do you mean the planet or the people on it?
I expect a decent sized meteorite could wipe out a lot of human life and leave the rest in a nuclear winter they might or might not survive. The Black Death killed anything up to half the population of Europe. The Mt Toba eruption (about 70,000 BC) may have reduced humanity to less than 10,000 people. So yes, it may be possible.
