Xmas Decorations Up Yet ?
I usually wait until the week before Xmas, to put my tree and decorations up.
But this year I plan to put them up a week today...ie the 1st of December, and am now looking forward to that like an excited school boy !
I live alone and I am now of the opinion that you have to make an extra effort at this time of year, otherwise what is special about Yuletide ?

I've got four very good reasons why there's no point in putting up decorations in my house. (They're called Tablo, Moonbeam, Biscuit and Chequers). This gives you an idea of the type of thing I'm thinking of ;-)

Chris....you have my every sympathy !
About 25 years ago, I had two cats, who were little beggars. I put my tree up, with chocolate dingle-dangles on, so that my nephews would have something to eat when they came over on Boxing Day. But the chocolate got a little warm
I suppose and have off a wonderful, cat-attracting aroma, and the tree was climbed in the middle of the night, with a huge crash !
When I ventured downstairs to investigate, there was no sign of anything cat-like but a bloody mess all over my living room floor ! I kicked them out into the cold night and started clearing up.
No more chocolate dingle-dangles since.

Hi mikey,
We usually put them up in the first week of December so yes, about the 1st or 2nd, and still like decorating the house up.....always finish by putting the angel oh the top of the tree.
Does take a while for everything, inside and out, to put up, so we usually get help from youngest daughter, and eldest son, who works as a teacher now, and lives with his girlfriend, but still often pops over ( grab a free meal or three, bless his socks)
Our 18 year old daughter and 21 year old son come back for Christmas from their University's around mid December. Be nice to have our son this year, as last year went away Christmas/ New year to the U.S to visit his girlfriend he met in Florida last year. Also went in June this year, so must be love.
Hope you enjoy putting up your decorations, mikey....not long to wait now :-)

Yogi....sounds as if you are going to have a wonderful time, with your family around !
I have come to the conclusion that unless you have young kids around, Xmas just doesn't seem the same somehow.
As boys, we always looked forward to Xmas in the 50' and 60's. It was a time when you had plenty of everything, like tangerines, Quality Street, nuts, and stuff like that. Now, we can have these things every day of the year and its not very special any longer.
I recall the fragrance of the roasting Turkey, from quite early on Xmas morning.... it used to drive the dog mad, let alone us ! We had an LP that we played on Xmas morning, full of carols, which was reverently brought out every year. Mum used to work so hard on the day, although we all did the washing up.
It all seems a very long time ago now, and if I could wave a magic wand,
I would gladly transport myself back 50 years, to when I was a boy.

Jack....why the sour note ? Everybody else on this thread seems happy to enjoy it for what it is. Go and have a whinge and a moan somewhere else !
To enjoy Xmas has nothing whatsoever to do with religion, if you don't want it to. Its an occasion when friends and family can get together and have a good time.
