morning all, that youtube clip took me back.....DH and I used to be hippy bikers...is anyone else a Canned Heat fan??
Puppy training went okay on friday...dear DH has to mend our garden gate today as the dear little wreckers have partially demolished it so he has gone off to B and Q.
My mimosa tree is out in full bloom, also the mahonia, two bright spots in a sea of mud. The winter honeysuckle needed a good pruning this year so sadly not many flowers. The winter flowers are my salvation, especially scented ones.

hi woofy....I've got a mahonia but no flowers cos I slaughtered it last year...easier than bending to tweak the rusty bits off! Now my winter honeysuckle, yes amazing scent, I use as a weather guide...lots of flowers by xmas time means non severe winter, but no floweres until later - they're just starting to come on - means bad weather. Odd it may sound but it's never let me down, and I'm the one who always argues it's about what's gone before, not what's ahead in most cases. (berries on trees etc).
Mind you, it was planted by a hippy friend (sadly no longer here) & strange things happened when he was around :o)

Wow Led Zep on Sunday afternoon Great. Really cheered me up.
Hope you are all ok. The weather is dead dreary over here.
Guess who's got a date on Tuesday night. I can't stop laughing. A date at my age LOL.
Seeing as how you all like Bob Lol I though I would share this one with you. All I want to do is be friends with you all.

Good afternoon all - Love Dylan, hate Led Zep (was never tuneful enough for me to bop to!)

Morning, possums, here's one of my infamous essays; read it only if you're interested in old towns and skip it otherwise.
Okay, Ystad, the town where I grew up - and where Kenneth Branagh is apparently going to be running around as Inspector Wallander, lol. My family lived there when I was between oh about three and thirteen years old, and I rode my bike there so freely that Inspector Branagh is bound to discover my wheel tracks.
This is where we're at geographically, in Skne (Scania), the southernmost part of the land, which was Danish until 1658. Herring fishers settled here in the 12th century and a town evolved all in preparation for Branagh.
Apart from "Kurt" Ystad is known for its half-timbered houses and the real live watchman".
I remember the watchman as a visual symbol of the town but the sound I really associate with Ystad is the sound of the foghorn.
Can't imagine who amongst you would possibly be interested but here's a piccy of one of the breweries, in the typical half-timbered style.
This street light too is so familiar to me...

The landscape in Scania is very flat. In the 19th century a forest was planted to protect Ystad from the sea eroding the coast. The Ystad sandy beach is endless, it just goes on and on, mile after mile after mile just outside town. I read on some site it's the longest in Sweden. Here and there among the dunes there are deserted bunkers from WW2; I used to jump from them onto the sand.
This tree, a kind of willow, is strongly associated with the Scanian landscape, but I also miss the lovely common beech (picture not from Scania but it looks the same) which doesn't grow as high up as Stockholm.
I must tell you Sweden's got its own Stonehenge and it's nearby Ystad. It's Ale's stones, and if you're interested you can read more about it here.
Back in Ystad, there's a 13th century Franciscan monastery with a herb garden and a rosarium, and I think that was where my beloved duck pond was as well. I've never been back but I've often thought I'd like to see it all again - guess the BBC is taking care of that for me now...
