Ebay postage

Yesterday I sold something on ebay. Because I had missed the post and knowing there is no more until Tuesday I drove a 15 minute car journey and delivered the goods. Just seen a message from buyer asking if, as I didnt use the post, could they have the postage fee back! I think that is a cheek. Not just because they got the goods very cheap as it was, but petrol is £1.40+ a litre at the moment! I have sent a message back saying how about I refund £2 and keep £1.50 for my petrol. Is it me?????

The saga continues. Having said in previous email that item sold on Saturday was lovely and perfect fit, buyer sent message today, item does not fit please give me your address to return. Was a bit blunt and said either you were lying on Saturday or you are now. Ebay is not sale or return.

I haev a box on my sle page that says "returns not accepted" - caveat emptor!

I'm buying a pair of shoes at the moment on spec - if they don't fit I wouldn't dream of asking for a refund, I'll just sell them on.

PS grasscarp - she's already got your address, it would have been on your invoice.... :-)

No Boxtops. I didnt give an invoice or even a parcel. I hand delivered in a carrier bag, and apart from knowing my ebay name and my first name she knows no more. I dont think I ever put an invoice in my ebay parcels (or have ever done - didnt know that one should).

With ebay now I do not leave feedback to buyers until they give me feedback first. So if negative you can reply with your feedback.. I am fed up with them att the moment because I keep getitng emails from them saying if my feedback for postage doesnt improve they will do something or the other, don;t know as havent read it properly. But the thing is I do keep my postage down I weigh everything wrapped before I put it on for sale. You cannot keep postage down if it costs that much to send.! Many a time I have been out of profit because our post office makes them weighing more than I do.

lilacben, I do that too (weigh it with the box/whatever I intend to pack it in) - but it's not the postage I get marked down on, it's the despatch time in the past - which I don't understand as I say I'll mail within 3 working days and I always do. I generally don't leave feedback when people pay, only when they confirm receipt, and have left the feedback for me.

Grasscarp, sorry misunderstood, I thought you meant a different buyer - but that's just her hard luck, she should have asked you for measurements if she was doubtful about fit. Once bought and paid for, unless you say on your site you take returns, you don't have to take it back. It's different if it's faulty or not as described - just because it doesn't fit the buyer is her tough luck, that's how eBay works.

they have probably worn it out to a party and now want ot 'take it back' like some people do from shops...wear once, leave the tags on then get a refund

tell them they are taking liberties...especially since there is no fault with the item

i think they have figured you are pushover and are trying to push their luck ... unfortunately to some people being nice and kind is seen as weakness.

Hi boxtops. I didn't believe they didn't fit as she said in email asking for postage refund they are lovely and perfect fit. She turned quite abusive and nasty when I said this. Anyhow have given my address. She is sending them back and I can do a second chance offer to next bidder. Thought this better than go through hassle with this becoming a dispute. In great scheme of things no big deal really. I will not be refunding her postage so that will be fun if she dares to ask for it!

grasscarp, she is really pushing her luck with you and it is really good of you to say you will refund. Make sure you block her so this doesnt happen again with her. Also prehaps "name and shame" may be a good idea so other ebayers don't get caught out by her. Good luck in selling it again.

Thanks Lilacben. When I get it back I will offer it to the next bidder (who was only 50p less). Quite a lot of interest so I know I can sell them again. People are just so incredible. Said in last email I was ripping her off to have charged postage and then delivered them! Conveniently ignoring fact I gave her most back when she criticised. I should have just given her nothing back.

They are quite right. I'd agree to refund the postage as soon as they pay you for the petrol and your time for the delivery first. Fair's fair after all.

15 minutes there and 15 back is half an hour, at say £30 an hour rate, brings you £15. Plus £1.50 for petrol makes a total of £16.50. As soon as you receive the £16.50 you'll put the £2 in the post for them.

Postage is your delivery charge, not just stuffing the item in the nearest PO box, I'd charge her for your petrol, wasting your time, etc. Send her a further invoice for time-wasting, your computer-time & stress.

Then block her as a buyer from your items..

You two made me laugh. I gave her a better than post office delivery. Same day, no chance of getting lost in the post, no need to be out and collect from the post office etc etc. However, it was lost on this buyer.

i would have emailed and stated that there was no post til tues, but for the p&p you would deliver in person! and grateful customer would have understood!
