Ebay postage

Yesterday I sold something on ebay. Because I had missed the post and knowing there is no more until Tuesday I drove a 15 minute car journey and delivered the goods. Just seen a message from buyer asking if, as I didnt use the post, could they have the postage fee back! I think that is a cheek. Not just because they got the goods very cheap as it was, but petrol is £1.40+ a litre at the moment! I have sent a message back saying how about I refund £2 and keep £1.50 for my petrol. Is it me?????

Some people on ebay will try anything to get a discount. Don't give them a penny back. I would not have driven the item over unless they paid my petrol there and back which is almost certainly a lot more than the postage

Some people have a nerve. If it was me I wouldn't refund anything. When she committed to buy the item, she was also committing to paying the postage costs.
The only way I would have issued a refund for postage was if the buyer had collected from your house.
Just by way of an incidental rant, I'm selling some quite heavy shoes and I've listed p&p as £3.75 which I think is very reasonable. I am currently watching a summer top my daughter wants and the seller wants £4 for p&p. Talk about ripping people off!

Don't give them anything, they have a nerve!! They should have realised it was Easter and no deliveries would be made until at least Tuesday. Personally, I would have waited until Tuesday to post it.

You are right Celtic. I should have refused but then again I am quite a pushover and I could see this person may not have much money. Next time I will think twice before being so helpful. I once took something miles across London (using my freedom pass) and hand delivered it (was large heavy item). The person offered me nothing, Zilch, nada for bringing it. I am afraid the fool is me.

I hope you got them to sign something to say the item has been delivered, otherwise they could easily say it's never been received and you'd have nothing to prove otherwise.

Chuck, I handed the item to the person. They are very happy with it and told me so in the message I found in my ebay in box today. They are going to give me good feedback, and as you know that is very important!!!!! LOL

The only time I don't charge postage is if people collect the item from me - as is said, the postage fee is part of the deal.

mrs O - If I was charging £4 for postage for a top, it would have to be for recorded delivery etc - I tend to overestimate postage and packing (don't forget you can include packaging, getting to the PO, etc. in your charge), then if the price is quite a lot less than I'd estimated, I give them a partial refund. I couldn't do it any other way.

grasscarp - if you HAD posted the item, you wouldn't have know if this person looked hard up or not - but no, you spent the postage money on petrol. My sales this weekend are waiting til the PO opens again on Tuesday!

ojread, I can tell you another story about how I got a negative. I sold some partially used perfume. Buyer said it did not smell the same as another one they had. Said ok, then I will refund and dont bother to send it back. They said ok and promised good feedback. Then left me a negative. Had a bit of a run in with ebay about it and they removed comment but said they couldnt remove the negative! I did try contacting buyer to ask why the negative but they ignored me. However, I still stick with ebay as it does help to get rid of things. Most buyers are no hassle.

I use the forums, a lot, and some of the negs and neuts sellers get are so unreasonable it's unbelievable
I do believe sellers should be able to at the very least give a neutral

What bugs me about Ebay now is, as a Seller you can't leave negative feedback to a buyer who has not paid for an item. I think this is wrong, as it would be a good warning to others so the Buyer can get away with doing again to another Seller.

If postage comes out a lot lower once I have been to the Post Office, I always refund the difference.

Grasscarp, that was very generous of you to drive and deliver the item and no, they should not have the nerve to ask for a refund on postage.

Although sellers cannot leave negative feedback, I got around this by typing the words THIS IS A BIG FAT NEGATIVE in the feedback comment

I think it is only fair to warn other Sellers.
