'Black Friday' (as the busiest shopping day of the year) is a purely American concept.
Brits tend to do their High Street shopping at the weekends, rather than on Fridays, so the last Saturday before Christmas has traditionally been the busiest shopping day of the year in the UK. In recent years, of course, (with the growth of Sunday shopping) the whole of the final pre-Christmas weekend has been seen as the peak shopping period although when Christmas Day falls early in the week (as this year) the previous weekend might actually be busier.
While the UK has never has 'Black Friday', the advent of online shoppig means that we've now got 'Cyber Monday':

Not Black Friday here but "packed Friday!" Every man and his dog in Morrisons this morning, road rage in car park which also was partly flooded, shelves emptying so quickly the poor assistants couldn't fill up in time, got some red carnations for table arrangements which were mouldy when I took them out of packaging at home 20 miles away so can't return them - no fresh cranberries and young lad assistant said "Nah, we 'aven't 'ad any in at all" - can you believe that - at Christmas? Been to 3 supermarkets in one day which has been hell on earth but hopefully I'm all finished now - I HATE FOOD SHOPPING!
