The layout in these stores drive me mad, everything all crammed together on hangers and nothing displayed nicely on models - I have yet to buy any clothes from here. There is lots of space to walk around each shop so wouldn't you think they would have a few more hanging rails to leave more space to push the coat hangers along? Does anyone else feel like this - or is it just me?

True, but they might object to such a simplistic description!
From their website:
"The majority of our stock is fashionable, current season merchandise while a small percentage is past season (always clearly labelled) or timeless classics."
I actually like their layout. It shouts "This is my type of shop" (i.e. cheap!) to me ;-)

Having said that - our M&S flagship store has had a major refit recently and its the most awful layout imaginable, even the shop assistants say it is! I get completely lost in there, there is no central aisle and its even easy to lose track of which way you are facing, as you wander round and round looking for items you need. :)
As a comparison, my local branch of Primark (ipswich) has clothes all over the place (possibly bundled in piles or even simply strewn across the floor) with a very basic layout. Their big store on London's Oxford Street is plush, with everything neatly organised, well-lit and well-displayed. I MUCH prefer the Ipswich store; I feel out of place in the Oxford Street one!
I don't have the patience for TKMaxx (not big on shopping) but himself has got some bargains in there (got me a really, super-duper warm winter coat - although I wouldn't have paid the price he did even if it was about 1/4 of the original price). He has also got the girls some fab (but pikey) dress-up dresses from there.
