And some others. Milk. I like a bargain as much as the next person but don't want our dairy farmers to go out of business.

I had the sort of answer that suggested Tesco is bearing the cost but left me doubtful. In fact I will email them again next week.

It is difficult to compare prices with the past because technology and mass production have reduced costs. I remember at the age of 5 my mother sent me to the corner shop to by a loaf of bread and gave me 6d. When I got to the shop the lady told me that it had gone up to 7d so I had to trudge all the way home to ask for another 1d. Ee, life were hard in them days!
I also remember our first TV in 1956. It cost £80 and was paid for on the never never. £80 was about 2 months of my father's wages.
