I have a pair of ww2 brit army pants that are wearing out in the crotch area, how can i stop/prevent & cure it so that it doe's not chaff?. During the war years the soldiers must have had this prob & knowing them they would have resolved it so over to you CAN you solve it for me thanks in advance.
if these trousers are really special to you take them to a dressmaker or tailor and they maybe able to insert similar material in the worn area, get a price first
If i could do that i would buy the full stock, any size over 28/30" waist is very very rare during the war years the men were only around 5'6ish tall & 10 1/2 stone. My uniform was made to measure in India.
You should find someone who really understands vintage to have a look at it. I think my best advice would be to sew in a cotton lining and darn the worn off areas. There's also some iron-on fabric available at sewing shops which might strengthen the fibres. Hope this helps!
My farther served in the 2 ww as a Sherwood Forester, I reenact as that regement, Maggie my other 1/2 acts as A.T.S. Provost Police. There are 1000s of like minded people out there doing the same every week. Hope this has helped to answer some of your Qs
