Tesco parking

I often park at Tesco well away from the throng and have done for years. It didn't bother anyone until tonight when i was told by Security " move your car, this area is for staff only " ( I was a little surprised as I was the only car in 100 spaces ).

Are shops with their own car parks under any obligation to indicate where parking is prohibited?

sadly yes as in most cases they own the property that the customers park on.
all supermarkets are well in there rights to also have parking meters and ticket pepole .
sainsburys are the worst for this they also hand out tickets to vulnerable elderly
that haven't got the parking skills they use to have and parked over the whit lines. its abysmal.
this does seem a bit silly especially when the customers come first !! or do they?
in most supermarket car parks they do let you park anywhere it would be
silly for tesco to have a 100 space reserved staff parking and start turning
away customers that couldn't park.
in fact i remember reading an article in the newspaper at Christmas
were Morrison's told the staff they were not allowed to park in the car park
during the busy periods so customers could park and spend there cash.
i think this is a silly situation were someone
had probably just been promoted and felt bored so had to use his\her authority,
if it was to happen again i would complain to the in store manger they never like bad feedback you may even get a bit of discount

Sounds like an extremely "jobsworth" security bod who told you that, especially if it was that empty!

Our local Tesco allows you to park during the day for two and a half hours free of charge and loads of people just wander off into town, or whatever, often without actually using Tesco, then drive off before the time's up.

Yes they can restrict parking if it suits them as they own the land. However, if they designate so-called "staff parking only", which our local branch doesn't have, it should be signposted as such.

Thanks itmepop134 and paraffin , I heartily agree.

I have never seen the security at Tesco go to the disabled bays right outside the main entrance and check the Badges. However they can walk to the far end of the car park ( which involves a very long walk ) to "move on" a regular paying customer.

I suspect that someone was having a bad day and took it out on me as it's the same area i've parked in for 4 years!

Oddly enough , there is another similarly sized Tesco two miles away with a smaller car park . Here the staff just have to fight it out for parking space!

Hi there airbolt,
My Grandson works for Sainsburys,and whilst they are encouraged to park their cars at the farthest extent of the public car park,there is NO designated area.They only park there because it allows the customers to use the nearest(to the shop) spaces.
I think this "security" guy has got the wrong end of the stick, and imagines that ONLYstaff can park there! (Which is not right)
I would have word with Tesco (instore) customer service and/or the Store Manager(if the service desk doesn't settle it).

Itmepop. Why should elderly drivers be treated any different from somebody else and how on earth are they people who check the car park supposed to know if the car belongs to somebody old....keep their eyes peeled for packets of wurther originals?

If somebody can not manage to park between two white lines that are set wider than the width of their vehicle then one should ask what are they doing still being allowed to drive around on our streets.

The reserved for staff bit sounds nonsense though I think our local one does close of sections of their car park later on in the evening but this is with barriers.

coobeastie...... i think you should read my awnser again and you would clearly understand that i feel the way the elderly are treated is wrong and if a good security guard is doing his job propley they will no were most of the elderly park as in most cases the disabled bay and as clearley stated in my answer """it would be silly to have a 100 space reserve parking for staff and turn away coustmers """" it was a little bit of sarcasem not a bloody true story but mabey next time you could leave an answer that may help airbolt rather than trying to be the answerbank's internet police foool
