A few years ago at Eurodisney I noticed that as the queues built up for a ride a few attendants would go down the line and say that they were closing down the ride as it has developed a fault so please dont queue for this ride. The rides were continuing in full view and if you came back in 10 mins they were still going on. This happened all around the park when the queues built up on a particular ride. I tried to tell the attendant (in glorious french) that he was practically lying and he just shruged his shoulders. I wrote to them saying why dont they just tell the truth to reduce queues instead of stupid lies...no reply. And yesterday at a local Mcdonalds after waiting for 5 mins for 3 burgers the faceless chappie made just 2 and i heard the till person give him a right lashing for not making three but she came back to me and said 'sorry about the wait the toasters broken'. Do they take us for fools. And they say old men are not grumpy!!

The stupid thing is they make their lies so obvious that it makes them look ridiculous. At least if they told the truth and said for example "sorry my lazy arse colleague could not be bothered to make 3 burgers so you can only have 2 unless you re prepared to wait a bit longer" we would hve a certain amount of respect for them for admitting the truth!
10 euros for a "Pluto meal" consisting of a tasteless hotdog and a thimbleful of drink; of course Disney take us all for fools. Ok rant over, I actually found one McDonalds once where they had the right idea, evryon stands in line in the order that they enter the shop and is then served in the that order as a till becomes free, that circumvented the lmost inevitable squabbles one seems to see in most "free-for-all" queing systems. Not really an answer to your query, but I feel better for getting it off my chest, thanks.

A couple of years ago, I was in McD's in a long queue for about 10 mins with 3 kids ( a half term 'treat'). By the time I got to the till my temper was a little frayed to say the least. I complained about the long queue to the chap on the till (ear-ring covered in plaster and a beaded neckace round his neck - both a no -no for McD's) to be told I was making the queue worse as I was complaining! I then saw red and asked for the person in charge who made some lame excuse about being short staffed. Surely at half term they should have predicted an upturn in trade? People behind me were saying go-girl-go - perhaps I was speaking for the masses? Anyway I wrote to their HO about the appalling service, received vouchers for my next visit and an abject apology. In my opinion we don't complain enough and put up with shoddy service. Incidentally I've never been back to that branch so they have lost one customer.
