Just over 30 years ago, when we were not long wed, I took my wife to London for a long weekend.
On the Saturday we booked tickets at the Palladium to see Tommy Steele in 'Hans Christian Andersen', but beforehand we walked all the sights of the city and were on our toes for about 10 hours non stop. Having later changed we took our seats in the theatre where I promptly fell asleep and was woken up when it was time to leave, sorry Tommy.
Unfortunately, I was in a conversation with this girl at the time and actually fell asleep while she was in mid-sentence. I just couldn't stop myself. I don't think she was too impressed.
Not me but my husband!
Years ago, I had made friends with a really nice neighbour & over a period of time, she invited us over for drinks & munchies.
My husband shook hands with her husband & we proceeded to chat. We soon realised that her husband was the most boring bloke you could have clapped eyes on, or listened to. All he talked about was decorating!
We tried to deviate from such a mundane subject for a Saturday night, but it kept creeping back to that. I was trying to hide my yawns, but my husband went one further & started to snore extremely loudly! I think they got the message & needless to say, we never met up again, except in the street!
Just to add to the Star Wars effect, in the early 80s (when I was "only" 18) I went to see a double bill of the original Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. I watched the first 20 mins then slept right through the rest of it ... my then boyfriend woke me up when it was time to leave.
Also, on a second date with my current boyfriend, we'd gone back to his to watch Gladiator (which admittedly I'd already seen). I fell asleep against him and dribbled over his arm !!!! .... at that point, absolutely no intimacy of any sort, not even a kiss had occurred .... mortifying .... but we're still together 4 years on, engaged, with house & baby daughter.
