My husband is thinking of leaving his job and has let me find a small list of nice places to live. So please give me hand and tell me where are the nicest places with the friendliest people.  My input is the Lake District everyone is really nice there.

3 years ago we were moving from Devon to the North West as Mr Spudqueen had a new job in Sedburgh, and we had to be no more than 1 hours drive away from there. We dismissed the Lake District as being too expensive and wet, though we seriously considered Grange-Over-Sands as it has it's own micro-climate and is a really nice place. We eventually moved to a village on the edge of the Forest of Bowland, though we also had to consider schools and other family who live in the North West. We are really happy here, very friendly people, great countryside around us (our house backs on to farmland) yet handy for the motorway, oh and great pubs! You need to decide what you want out of an area (shops, pubs, schools, transport links etc) and then get out there and experience it! Good luck!
There are friendly people everywhere. As spudqueen says look at amenities, access schools etc. Where she lives is one of the nicest and picturesque parts of the country. But don't tell anyone I'd like it to stay like that.

I come from West Yorkshire originally and my husband loves it when we go there to visit friends and family because he says everyone is so open and affable, he just feels right at home there and welcome. Awww!

I think it's true there that are friendly people - and also unfriendly people - wherever you go though.

a UK survey recently confirmed what many of us up here knew.....that Scots are by far the friendliest neighbours to have.

That's cos we don't understand what you're saying Kick3m0n!  We think you're sweet and Mrs Doubtfireish when you tell us you'll give us a Glasgow kiss!

I am of course joking, my family come from Paisley and the Gorbles (classy huh?).

Anyhow, I agree with previous posts that you get friendly and unfriendly people everywhere.  I also think it's how you present yourself as to the response you get.

Lastly, the friendliest place I have ever been to is Swansea.  I adore it, I would move there tomorrow if I could and I fell in love with everyone cos they're all so fabulous and wonderful and kind.

natalie - I love Swansea aswell, unfortunately Mr Spudqueens job is in the North West not South Wales, but you never know, one day........................
