Hey, I need some information regarding Name Change (Forename, Middle and Surname).

Am I legally allowed to change my name by deed poll. The fact I'm seperated and will be expecting to go through a divorce isn't the reason for wanting to change my name. I'm Male and the chosen name isn't related to any family or previous family.

Thanks.

I think you can legally change your name, as long as it isn't for the purpose of fraud (i know that's not your reason)

Thanks pixie. I'm struggling to find anything on google regarding it. All the forms/information is for minors and married/divorced people.

I'm kind of hoping New Judge is about to help me out with this one :)
There doesn't need to be a specific reason. You can change it and i don't think it's expensive either. Although, may be inconvenient telling bank, companies, etc.
Yes. Deed poll will serve to show that you are committed to being called by the new name and wish the world to know you by it. The only objection is if you intend to use the new name for fraud or deception or, of course, if nobody wants to call you by it. If you stay in your old name for everyone, nobody calling you by the new one, you needn't have bothered!
Yes, newjudge, Fred or barmaid will give you a definite answer.

I need to start my life again and I always want a new start with my name. You all probably think I'm crazy, maybe I am!

I don't mind doing all the leg work I.E the banks and such but I feel I need to do this. I don't have any friends, well not many. Everyone on here knows me as diz or dizmo.

My signiature for the past 5 years has been DjDizmo, and that's on everything; passport, legal documents, everything.
I think i understand your reasons, diz, from previous posts. If you think it will help to make a new start- go for it and good luck.:-)

I'm going to open a new thread (for what I'm about to say) because otherwise it will take this off topic. If anyone has any links of the correct forms (there are that many) then I will be grateful.
Hi
I recently helped my hairdresser change her name by deed poll. It took 2 minutes on line and I think it cost £10.
Go for it!
I don't think you're crazy. My ex changed her name to one which wasn't her maiden name or one belonging to anyone in her family; being divorced was not the sole reason. Of course, she didn't want to be known as Mrs Puli, but she didn't want her original name either.

Can anyone direct me to a URL to which I can do this? I'm getting lost here.
This one can be done on line and costs £4.50

My link is free, for the official government webpage.
hc, your link gives the application form only - it doesn't say what you have to do with it (i.e. where to post it to)
If you want to change your name officially and legally through the Court the Court charge is £102, if you do it yourself.

You don't have to that - but paying a third party is money wasted. You need only print out the form I have linked to, get it properly witnessed and send copies to the relevant agencies - bank accounts, passport, driving licence, utilities, mortgage company, landlord, credit card companies ....... all of which you have to do if you pay a third party.
