The Scottish government are proposing that people get a licence before they can buy or set off fireworks, and that has made me very happy!

Come from farming background and have seen too many animals injured. Worst of all of course are the lantern folk send upwards with no idea where they will land.
I hope that the law-abiding people of Scotland will adhere to the new law.

Quite true, and a welcome initiative.

Now we need to bring back dog licences under similar conditions and penalties for misuse.

I have seen more animals damaged by farmers than fireworks
If it works, I hope England follows suit. Personally, I'd like them banned for use to the general public forever and organised displays only, but I can't see that ever happening unfortunately.

All we can do is sign the petition every year Barsel - maybe some day, someone in power will listen ..

Bookbinder it will be like any other law eg speed limits. Some will obey and some ignore.

Or they could cross the border in to England and buy them - if the proposal does become law.

Of course Barry, I'm going to drive a few hundred miles to buy fireworks which will be illegal in Scotland! You've really thought that one out!
Not everyone that lives in Scotland is hundreds of miles from the border, maggie.
Maybe your joking maggiebee rather than been sarcastic but i think barry1010 is just saying some would and his right they might especially those living within a short drive
I have just discovered that fireworks are legally sold online
that's one thing I am happy to agree with you on maggie.
