I was given mine by a Turkish friend after an embarrassing misunderstanding during a phone-call. When I called and told her it was Jean ringing from England, she heard it as Jane and launched into a tirade to stop harrassing her hubby and slammed the phone down! I had to get MY hubby to call her back and explain.....so I became 'ipek' thereafter to avoid confusion. I took to it straight away because it means 'silk' (the Turks have a habit of naming people after things) and makes me feel as special as the fabric.
In person I often manage to come across as pretty scattered. A friend of mine started referring to me as 'tief' without any explanation. I finally beat it out of him - he said he'd had the wrong impression about me for months and if I wanted to know why 'tief' to go and look it up in the dictionary. Didn't tell me to get a German dictionary did he? Funny little word, but it's grown on me over the years.
I chose mine because I'm a big bloke called Dave. But Big Dave is taken everywhere, so I thought 'whats bigger than big?' Mega was taken too and so I went for Giga! And thus Gigadave was born...
As I'm sure a few of the movie fans out there will realise, my username comes from the 1960 film starring John Mills and Sylvia Symms - Ice Cold in Alex. It was a name given to me by a very gorgeous girl who I used to work with. Not that interesting. ( and yes, my name is Alex)
