Apparently during George Bush's recent visit to Germany, a cavalcade was sent from Berlin to pick up Condoleeza Rice from some provincial airport out in the east. The cavalcade got lost. Instead of asking a kindly policeman the way to the airport - or reading a map, even - they rang up the NSA headquarters near Washington. The NSA were able to tweak their spy satellites and give them directions...
My husband, in his youth, worked as a footman in Government House, Perth, Australia. When his mother (in Scotland) heard that the queen was to visit there she wrote to her and asked her to say 'hello' to her son...... and she did !
(nothing to do with the wonders of the web but great PR don't you think)
