whats everyones views on this subject? Do you think its right or wrong?
i personally think its quite sad for both sides. But i feel sorry the women for thinking that they will have a perfect life once they have married someone from either England or America.

I think it is sad to for both parties, but the men are sad losers and the women , well its sad they can be so greedy.

It is easy to make sarcastic remarks on the subject of mail order brides, but it doesn't change things. Yes, many of the women are probably selling themselves out of pure greed and looking for a luxury life style. But in fairness, there are other young brides for whom it is the only way out of extreme poverty both for themselves and for their families. As for the men - well they mostly go for these mail order brides for two reasons - for sex (as no one else will have them) and because they think these women (mostly Thai) will pander to them hand and foot, unlike most western women. So who gets the short end of the stick here (excuse the pun)? I just feel sorry for both parties, mostly though for the young girls who do this to save their families.

its not much different to alot of ageing British women who come back to Britain after spending 2 weeks in the Gambia and meeting some young, 20 something man. Whats the attraction there then ? ;-)

Pippa - i love 'Skint' - was gutted when i realisd i missed it.

Carakeel - Even a Russian woman admitted they don't live such bad lives anymore she said "maybe 10 years ago" and if they were living in extreme poverty i'm sure that woman (the one that went to live in that mans house) - wouldve been a lot more appreciative of his accomodation instead of critising the house throughout the whole series.

As for the men, well they obviously can't handle us stern English or American women and use what money they have to try and lure in young, naive Russian girls.

No i dont have BBC Wales unfortunately - i taped the last 10 minuutes or so of Skint and saw the ending - very sad programme.

Of course I don't think many people would openly agree with it.

I have travelled far and wide as have many on here I am sure and as a western man you are viewed in many of these places as being wealthy. It doesn't matter whether you actually are or not, but people from poor countries just assume that if you live in England or America you earn a good wealthy living. Also the wetsrern countries offer a greater amount of freedom, than their own, especially if they are married to a citizen of the country. For many of these women it is a way out, and through my travels I can see that for most this is a good thing, and they are prepared to take that risk. They are not just doing for their families, they are doing it for themselves and without knowing their particular circumstances I don't think we should label them all the same.

For the men who do this, sad as they might be, I am sure I don't need to explain the reasons or appeal. It seems obvious.
