I find it difficult to admire the Queen. All her life she has been looked after to the highest possible standards in all areas, she has done a good job but so have millions of other people, she does not know what it is to be in a queue, wait for service or worry if her children will find a job. She has people to arrange the smallest details in her trips and plenty of people to fawn over her. I believe a person doing a job they may dislike to maintain a family because it is their duty is more deserving.

I know if we had a President they would receive all the advantages now afforded to the Queen but at least we could change them every few years.

I've nothing against the Queen or any of the royals but I don't see that they do anything to be admired for really.

How do you know she likes her job?

No. But not for any of the reasons you said as that sounds a bit bitter in the sense that she's rich and priviledged and so therefore deserves distain because she's never had it hard etc... She's probably had her own hardships which I don't imagine we know anything about. Much like other rich and priviledged people.

I don't admire her simply because I can't think of anything that she has done that has brought her to my attention of worthy of admiration. I feel that about loads of people, regardless of their background.
i admire anyone of her age, who has served her country and avoided scanda as well as she has.

we don't know what the continuous high profile, security and scrutiny must be like for her. surely we have much more free will??

she can't help the bed she was born into and when i think about a 'president blair' i thank god we have her!
I suppose she could have retired but possily she thinks its a case of "apres moi le deluge". Just got in from a great walk and never thought of the Q once. Must be a Republicam lol.
I don't envy her.. at 85, I'd want to be sitting down with my slippers on, not flying all over the world, plastering a smile on, having to stay up late to entertain guests or just be present.

my mum is 10 years younger, and it would wipe her out.

I dont really think about the queen much but ive felt sorry for her sometimes .... there must be times when she thinks 'oh feck it i cant be arsed' then still has to go smile and wave....

wow i didnt know she did that too...poor poor woman :(
Fair's fair.............I couldn't be arsed to do a 10 hour shift at a dog biscuit factory either.
While I am no lover of the royal family you have to say they must do a lot of things they dont like to earn their living.

Suppose you had someone come in to your room in the morning and say "today maam you have to go to Huddersfield and open a baked bean factory, then in the afternoon you go to Aberbeen to visit a home for ex-offenders"

And it is like this day after day, year after year. You can just stay in bed a claim a sickie.

You have to walk round a building shaking hands with people you dont know and will never see again, keeping a smile on your face, knowing that for all the people you meet it is THEIR big day, but you have done it day after day after day for years.

Yes they lead a good life some of the time, but I certainly would not like to be told where I was going day after day, even when I did not feel like it.

I dont envy her.

The Queen has the advantage of being able to abdicate when she wishes, perhaps she wishes to be the longest serving Monarch.
I greatly admire your Queen...she won the hearts and minds of the Irish people on her State visit earlier this year. She alone has healed the wounds of 800 years and a new chapter of friendly relations exists between our countries due to President Mary McAleese and Her Majesty.

How can she abdicate when she wishes, at her coronation she pledged her whole life in service to the country...........
