Almost Unable To Drink At Social Occasions....

Following on from Joko's thread below, what do we feel about those that you know are drinkers but for the evening concerned have chosen to drive and hence nurse a pint of shandy all night? I'd rather they didn't come that base the whole evening on getting home afterwards! Ok it's my birthday so I'll get a round in, "just a J2O, I'm driving" aaaagggghhhh do they have cabs on your planet?

Call me old fashioned, but I'd prefer their company than worry about what they are drinking.

...quite a selfish viewpoint - people can't afford workwise to lose their licences, and I certainly can't afford financially to take cabs thither and yon. One driver can take four people who CAN drink. IMO, to opt for the J20 is responsible and sensible. They came to your birthday party - don't criticise what they choose to drink.

You need a mortgage to get a cab round here, they're eyewateringly expensive, it also depends on how friendly I am with the person, whether they are worth shelling out that cab are for.

I'm going to a party tonight and won't be drinking for that very reason. If I don't go 4 other people can't go. Of course we could always get a taxi. Aylesbury to Birmingham and back can't be that much.

I don't know where to start with answering this silly question. I would guess a group of friends would take it in turns to be the designated driver. What is wrong with that?

Why do we need to get pissed on your birthday, is it that bad?

"Get a cab" easy to say not so easy to do. Some of my designated driver round trips might be 100miles or so. Cost of cab horrendous around here.

Sometimes a cab / taxi can make an evening expensive if you don't live near the venue. Another example - it's my daughters 21st next saturday and it's at a venue where we have to clear up afterwards which will involve takng presents and a lot of rubbish home, so I'll probably be the one nursing a shandy.

There is a lot to be said for that point of view Danger, I am not sure who would have the most boring evening, the drinkers or the responsible ones.

If it is going to be a "p1ss up" them Mr& Mrs Sqad do not attend.

I don't see why someone else opting not to drink should worry you. Their choice. And cabs aren't cheap. Why feel forced to pay for one to suit what someone else wants you to do ?
