The brown (Asian) dislike of black (African) is far from new. I taught night- school once where a lovely, black lady suddenly collapsed into tears and I spent the break cuddling her better and coaxing her to continue with the course. The reason for the tears was that she was trying to better herself by my lessons (letter writing) and her new Asian neighbours were making her life a misery and mocking her - they'd jeered her as she left her house to attend the lesson. She knew that she was going to have to move out of the area.

So, nothing new - but so sad.

Growing up in Leicester I was well aware that racism isn't just limited to white folks. There were three prominent gangs in the city when I was in my late teens, the white gang were basically townie football thugs with the stupid name 'Baby Squad' (no idea why), the other two were a West Indian gang and a Pakistani gang, whose names I don't remember. There were often street fights between the latter two in the Highfields area where I lived, they really hated each other and the names used about the opponents were very racist!
The white gang were also racist but a little less fussy about who they abused, if you weren't white British they hated you and happily let you know it.
