Wy Do You Hate Vegans? Vegan Here... Ask Me Anything :)

I love this site... have been a member for far too long lol
I rarely post but am always here and as a vegan I am basically gobsmacked at times at peoples attitude towards my lifestyle choice and yes it is a choice. As is yours.
BUT [from the Vegan Society]
Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.
At 47 years of age [50 this year] I adopted the Vegan lifestyle because I became aware of the apathy and my own jaded sense of what is right and wrong. Right to kill a pig... but not a dog? blah blah blah
Have you ever watched any documentaries concerning veganism? Earthlings? Cowspiracy? What the health?
Do you know what cognitive dissonance is?
I'm not posting this to be confrontational, I am truley interested in what people think :)

Not veganism naomi, but vegeterianis m and I'm starting tomorrow when I go shopping for food. I totally agree with andres, there is far too much suffering in the animal world, all down to us. How awful for them to know they are going to die.

// CallieB, Why would a sheep protect a lamb if, as you say, it knows what death is? what is the point of protecting a dead animal?//
Would you protect a dead child or just walk away and leave it for the carrion crows? I meant the sheep knows the dead lamb is not sleeping, it knows something is different .

If you don’t want to eat meat, then do not. If you do then do. No one has the right to tell anyone how to live their life. In this country cats and dogs are pets and not eaten. Sheep, cows and goats and chickens can be kept as pets if their owners want that but most are bred for the food chain. This has been a fact from the beginning of humankind. This will not change and no one can force this. However to improve the last minutes of life for an animal is a good thing and this should be the goal of animal welfare activists, not trying to change the lifestyle of carnivores, omnivores, herbivores or whoever else eats what they want
"And we will evolve out of eating animals..."
Most unlikely. Not everyone wants to ignore the reality of nature and the food chain because of some misguided beluefvthat it's miral to do so.
"the alternatives are better"
Er, they aren't. They can be ok but unless they mimic meat they are likely inferior, and if one has meat, there's no heed to mimic it.
"it is wasting the planet feeding the animals to feed us... time to cut out the middle man/cow/pig/sheep/fish.....?"
No, that isn't so, as explained above meat is a better more desirable meal, without needing to analyse our food to ensure vital nutrients are being consumed. What is wasting the planet is an inability to control breeding and overpopulating Earth.
