Lies, spin and double-speak seem to be the order of the day in more than one area of life, and moreover that dishonesty appears to be not only accepted, but welcomed, encouraged and exacerbated by many. What happened to the once cherished philosophy of honour and integrity?

I think this thread went down a path Naomi is unwilling to walk.
I doubt that!
"I really don't want this thread to revolve around Mr Trump."

I think she had to pop out for a bit.
Probably. It has got a bit off topic, but I don't see her bottling out :-)

"It has got a bit off topic"

I disagree. The OP is talking on a global scale of honour and integrity, so i discussed it on a global level. The President of the USA surely is topical when discussing honour and integrity on a global scale?
He is no example of it spath. I could well be wrong, but as it is posted in "society and culture" and not "politics", I read it as a more general question.

I'm talking about this country, spath - and I don't sit here constantly. Life exists outside the AnswerBank... well for me at least.
"He is no example of it spath."

He is, i've quite clearly outlined how he is a perfect example.

I did say, on page one, he is not solely to blame (of course he isn't)

But to deny him as an example is overly dismissive
"I'm talking about this country"

The OP was not clear on that in the slightest.

I think though, you can look at British politics in the same light. Where is the honour and integrity in UK politics? There is none.
It would be interesting to know when the "once-cherished philosophy of honour and integrity" genuinely dominated. Even focusing on this country it's hard to think of a time when, even if those were the dominant values, the actions of politicians actually matched them.
Whereas I don't believe that President Trump is the reason for the general moral slide among a world leadership who should certainly know and behave better - but I do believe he becomes a focus in debates like this, because he absolutely personifies it.

the "once-cherished philosophy of honour and integrity", like Britishness and Western values are rather nebulous, easily cited, never defined.
Maybe because it's the sort of thing hard to define but recognisable when seen.

This isn’t about Trump.

//Even focusing on this country it's hard to think of a time when, even if those were the dominant values, the actions of politicians actually matched them.//

But this isn't just about politicians. For the first time to my knowledge we have a mainstream political party openly pledging to trample over democracy - its slogan ‘B ....... to Brexit’. Thanks to those who also think that trampling over democracy in a democratic country is somehow acceptable, that party did very well indeed in the EU elections. Something for those who cherish honour and integrity to be proud of? I think not. It's an alien concept to that party and its supporters - and to those who think like them.

No names, no pack drill - again, and no answers ?

The Lib Dems. There's a name to conjure with. Nothing democratic about them.
