Is it rude to refer to a lady as "Doll"?

Is it OK to refer to a lady you know as "Doll"?

How would you feel if someone called you "Doll"?

I've been told to, "Be a doll and (whatever)" and although I don't particularly care to "be a doll" I usually go ahead and (whatever) anyway.

It wouldn't bother me.
Another stupid American import that we can't shake off. Widely accepted by Chavs and other English Estuary adherents. 'Babe' is another.
If it’s just a local term of endearment like love, babs etc. it’s ok.
I wouldn’t call anyone ‘Doll’.
I’d be happier to be called Doll than Cock, as I was once by a Northern gentleman.
(I hope the AB censor doesn’t filter that out.)
Wouldn’t bother me, either.
isn't this a regional thing?
Retro - Many Scottish refer to ladies as 'Doll''
I cringe when my husband calls people ‘darling’. It sounds so patronising and sexist.
I think it's quite cute.
Ummm
I suppose they had their share of G.I.s as well as anyone else.

Tbh I would be kinda miffed ;o)
I hate it when young checkout people call me ‘dear’. How old do they think I am?

Need some help with the packing 'Dear' ?
Just buying a cup of coffee from my local station cafe gets me called all of "my lovely", "sweetheart", "darling", and "my dear". The next male customer gets the same treatment. It's just her style and doesn't bother me a bit. A boring world if we all spoke the same.
My OH calls my dearest. He used to do it because I'm older than him....and it's stuck.

I'm 10 months older than him!
I don't like it. Funnily enough, it's only been women that have called me that - not men. It's "Maid" where I come from.
Question Author
Maid? That is an odd one..

If i was a girl i'd like the term doll i think :) It's flattering
I’m referred to as Oi.
