A so-called authentic piece of the manger where Jesus was tucked up has been sent to Jerusalem, to the delight of some christians. How could a piece of some unknown kid's cot have been tucked away in the expectation that in 2000 years he might become famous? Is there no end to the gullibility of religious believers?
Mamy, it's just that I don't see how this plausibly could be a bit of Jesus' manger. I would be impressed to see a thing that had once been in the hands of, or under the bum of, some wonderful person from many years ago, but only if I thought it was a pukka item.
It doesn't matter to me whether it is real or not, it didn't matter when my Aunts and Uncles brought me keepsakes from Lourdes or Rome that were obviously made in China and had tap water and nothing Holy within.
If it warms the hearts of some, that's fine by me.
I'm not gullible, I'm kind - it's how I was raised.
I don't think it's kind to lie about things like this. I've seen people weeping and wailing over so-called relics - utterly distraught - and all of them fake. That isn't kind. It's cruel.
Mamyalynne, I'm with you on this one. I'm not one bit religious, and I wouldn't decry religious belief, but, if it gives someone some comfort, then it must be OK.
