Anyone who doesn’t think there’s a class system has a big shock coming later in life and should examine how many of the top public schools generate top political, judicial and financial positions.
Pixie no I can't. From what I can gather only the Middle Classes seem to want to hold onto the class system as it gives them some sort of comfort that they have done better than those 'beneath' them.
Zacs you will get a huge shock when someone shows you how many low income students rise through the ranks (some even getting bursaries) to snap up the top jobs in the new Industries ( Computer Science, Cyber security etc) There is absolutely no place for the old school tie in these environments, and no class structure either.
Pixie that's because there are a lot of older generation on AB who think of themselves as Middle Class and thinks this gives them some sort of self importance. Younger folks just don't 'get it' and that's a huge bonus.
I don't see different jobs or income as different "classes" 7op, if that's what you mean?
And zacs, that doesn't make much sense. I've been to state, private, grammar schools, been employed, self-employed etc. What does that have to do with class though?
Exactly Pixie! Middle class love to hate the upper class (as they will never be able to join their club however much money they have) and look down on the Working class as no better than they should be.
There was a really good series on the TV a few years ago exploring class and I think it was hosted by Grayson Perry.
