An anti-racism campaign group is urging Britons to “take the knee” on their doorsteps for a socially distanced protest in solidarity with protesters in the US.

Stand Up to Racism (SUTR) has organised the protest for 6pm on Wednesday as part of a day of action against discrimination in response to the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis.

I won’t.

I'd get down there okay but like the Dowager in Downton, someone would need to help me up again.

You could bang your pots and pans at the same time:)
Maybe it could be the new thing at 8pm on Thursdays, now The Clap has finished.
Definitely not. There is no way I would want to associate myself with the protesters in the US.
Stand Up To Racism. Take The Knee. kind of a non-sequitur, no?

anyway. 6pm. Eastern Standard Time?
Absolutely not, I don’t want anything to to do with those that think rioting and looting is the answer, a peaceful protest yes, I would support them
No.
Most of what's going on in the US is peaceful protest. The violence gets more attention but it is, as usual, a minority.
Hi Moosheh
answering in the style of the thread . . . BUT

any thoughts on the sociology / anthropology of bending the knee Here in dear old Blighty and stateside ?

Mrs Reagan said - I am NOT curtseying to the Queen of England! so she was received in a sealed box or something

whereas if we were being knighted ( yes some one can nominate me! for services to everything ) we would bend the knee wivvart question
so clearly kneeling ( altho we are both christian countries) ahs very different connotations to the two cultures

oh and my mother was crawling around the main square at Lourdes, they all do ( or dont go there)
According to one report I read, Shabby Dhalu (SUTR) has asked Britons to take the knee "in solidarity with George Floyd." No mention of protests. Apart from in newspaper headlines.
bending the knee? in looting
depends if I were picking up a $1 note or $100 ! ter daaah

I mean come on - the usual suspects are chipping in their usual thoughts

Another pointless nonsense. America should sort their public relations out.
No.

Take the knee? Who made that ridiculous phrase up?
I'm not so good on one knee know. Bit wobbly. Lying prone is steadier for me.
It's a 'No' from me too.

SUTR has some interesting thinking on it's website though:
'“In the UK we’ve seen a black man tasered in front of his child in Manchester this month while Tory adviser Dominic Cummings gets away scot-free.'
This is seen a peaceful protest. There was a video in the news yesterday of policemen 'taking the knee' in front of protesters somewhere in the states. It is NOT in support of the violence.
Google it...its happening all over the states.
