You cannot rewrite history, whats done is done!
All we can do is learn from our mistakes and try to make sure that it doesn't happen again.
As for music, I suppose if you looked into every song thats ever been written, someone will find something to protest against!

I personally don't find them racist but that's hardly surprising, I am white British born and bred and although I have Black family members they are by marriage.

Someone from a different culture who has had different experiences may see those songs a different way.

I believe that due to the changes in format forced by the Covid situation there will also be archive footage included in the programmes, so maybe there'll be something for everyone.

This is OUR culture innit? Don't try to change,mess or alter it whilst in this sceptered Isle. I note some rissoles make a serious fuss about cultural appropriation and the rest of that crap. I rather agree with retrocop. I felt quite a reaction to the suggestion that our songs should be banned. It feels as if our culture and history is being threatened and a stand should be made. I know that 'Rule Britannia' usually needs a large orchestra, but it could be played with a smaller one for once.

With no audience it won't be the same, of course, but to leave out these pieces would be the first foot in the door.

Western European cultural traditions, which include ours, is what retrocop probably meant and again, I agree with him. As it happens, the songs in question are British written. We've already lost some of the traditional music that used to be played at the last night. It's a party - it's our party and I don't want to lose it. How are our children going to find any British cultural footholds if we strip them out? Anyway I am in the middle of making dinner so I'll call in later. I really feel annoyed about this suggestion. Will wait until decision before I go ballistic or sigh with relief. I am sure that internet sites are monitored to gauge nation-wide feelings.
