Have You Ever Been Tricked By Someone Claiming To Be Able To Contact The Dead?
319 Answers
Driving home today I was listening to Jeremy Vine interviewing A J West about his new book, 'The Spirit Engineer', which examines, among other things, the reality or otherwise of the spirit world and the trickery used by charlatans to convince people that they are actually contacting the dearly departed. Mr West threw out a couple of 'cold' readings and asked listeners to phone in if they thought anything he said referred to them personally. I arrived home before anyone called so I've no idea of the outcome. Interesting nonetheless.
So … have you ever been tricked by a trickster - and when did you realise you had?

I encountered someone by chance a long time ago back in the 70's. I was a young woman and I used to do voluntary work at the local RSPCA a couple of nights a week after work. One night I went in and there was a very, very sick little kitten there who I was extremely worried about and I took her into the office with me to keep an eye on her. She was sicking up worms, poor little mite. After a while another volunteer came in with her hubby, who I didn't know. I asked them to keep an eye on the sick kitten for me while I went out back to clean out the rabbit hutches and feed the rabbits. After a time I went back in, looking for the sick kitten and all I saw was a mad, happy little kittie zooming around and playing like kittens do. I said 'where's the kitten, where's the sick kitten?' Neither of them looked at me, but just sat looking at the playful puss, smiling ! It was in fact the sick kitten that was zooming around, seemingly 100% better ! Apparently, the girl's hubby was a 'faith healer' as he called himself and he had taken the puss in his hands and 'healed' it and there was the proof in front of me ! A while later my elderly dog was very ill with liver problems and the vet wasn't very hopeful, he commented on how white his gums were. In my grief, I asked for this man who helped the kitten to come and see my dog. I left him alone with my dog and afterwards he told me that my dog would be fine and I needn't worry. I could see an immediate difference in my dog and took him back to the vet for a checkup. The first thing the vet did was to check his gums and I heard him in an aside to himself saying 'his gums are pink again' as if he couldn't believe it. I didn't tell him about the faith healer ! My lovely dog recovered and had another year of life, dying at 14 years old. The faith healer gave me another wonderful year with my dog, who was at death's door with liver disease.
He wasn't a charlatan, he was a wonderful young man, who comforted me once again when my dog died and told me some lovely things. I lost touch with him over the years, but I often think of him and especially that very sick little kitten.
I know this isn't the same thing as contacting the dead, just an amazing thing that actually happened and I wanted to re-live it on here.
