Hmmm i was unsure where to post this question .. however im hoping somebody may be able to help.

I have an A-level assignment, where I must write a speech, to raise awareness of Child Abuse, and i must include several, quite famous cases of child abuse that have occurred in Britain in the last 20 years or so .. although im struggling to find some as i know of no names or such ... this doesnt seem like the most pleasant things to be asking, but would anybody be able to help in letting me know of any cases that i could further research?

Many Thanks if this is possible

Although sexual abuse features highly in the news, it only makes up a very small percentage of the child abuse which occurs in the UK. The majority of abuse is physical, psychological or simply neglect.

Here are few cases which have featured prominently in the news:

For more cases, if you can face reading them, just go to http://news.bbc.co.uk/ and search for 'child cruelty'.

Victoria Climbie in the London Borough of Haringey is the most famous case of abuse that I can think of the guardian newspaper has an extensive archive of online articles
http://observer.guardian.co.uk/focus/story/0,, 1859318,00.html
If you scroll down the end you'll find links to several sites including the one set up to deal with the enquiry into her death & if you type her name into the search engine it will bring up the other articles

Adam, the young African boy found in the Thames who was used in voodoo ceremonies
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torso_in_the_Tham es
If you type 'torso in the thames' or 'adam + voodoo + thames' into the Guardian search engine it will pull the relevant articles
The Victoria Climbie case prompted the latest government paper outlining responsibilities towards children "Every Child Matters"
Sadly, most of the cases we hear about are the ones that are usually fatal. There is some general info here which should help with your research:

Also, you might want to look into the Broxtowe case with charges that 10 adults had abused and sexually molested 21 children in their extended family.
