Every job I have worked in requires weekend work (at least working on Saturday if not Sunday). Does any one know the percentage of the full time British working population who still get the Friday night to Monday morning weekend? It seems our 24/7 society has taken this away.

I never have in my working careers (since 1983). Always had to work most Saturdays, and quite often Sundays (let alone nights!). Since 1995 I've been self employed, so its sort of my own fault, but you've got to earn a crust somehow!
in retail i never had a weekend to myself. my 'weekends' were usually tues/weds when none of my friends were off work.
Now Im in manufacturing industry and office staff do get weekends off and long xmas breaks but we still have machines running during this time.
My husband is a bricklayer and works monday to friday 8 - 5 and never works sat or sun. He spends his weekends at home!
