Well, as far as this Sunday is concerned, it's "happy Mothering Sunday" as the other one is a fixed day in North America, 9th May I think. Mothering Sunday is the middle Sunday in Lent.

Either one is the day of many mothers, so it's "Happy Mothers' Day".

Depends on the context:

"I hope all the mums thoughout the country have a happy mothers' day".

Or: "Happy Mother's day, mum."

Mothers can be used but not easily as described, eg the sentence: "John is a mummies boy, his mum contantly mothers him"

The second is incorrect: you may be speaking to your mother in the singular, but the day belongs to all the mothers (plural) so it should be "Happy Mothers' Day"

The third is incorrect: it should be "mummie's boy" - i.e belonging to his mummie.

No no no, rojash the third one, Mothers is a verb. He is being mothered, so she mothers him.

Loosehead, I'm fully aware that in the third one "mothers" is a verb, which is why I didn't bothet to mention it. The mistake in the third one is as I stated: "mummies" as he used it is a genitive noun, so should either be "mummie's" or "mummy's" (depending on how you like to spell mummy) with the possesive apostophe.

Sorry Loosehead, I thought your last one was to demonstrate both the use of mummy's as a noun and mothers as a verb.

If I'd realised the mummies part was peripheral, I wouldn't have commented. I hope I never reach the point where I get my kicks from deliberately criticising mere typos.
