Premonitions
91 Answers
Have you or do you have premonitions? I have since a child and they seem to be more prolific as I get older. Many times I've thought of something happening before the event and it's turned out exactly as I'd thought of it (does this indicate that the future is there already...?). I never take these "premonitions/thoughts" for granted and most times are shocked that they come about.
Some time ago one was awful as on the Saturday I mentioned to OH that someone we knew of but to do with our friend was going to pass away and it was so strong a feeling I wrote it in my diary. Didn't think too much about it but the following Thursday I had a phone call to say her sister had literally dropped down dead as she was walking to catch the bus. Her sister wasn't ill nor was there any concern for her health and she wasn't elderly either. This is one of many things that have come true that I've thought of prior to it happening over the years. Do you think it's coincidence or something that can't be explained?

So many people have made these claims before with "categorical proof" apparently.
but the offer still stands: http://www.randi.org/...php/1m-challenge.html it has been on offer for about 40 years so far I believe.

I don't have premonitions as such but when younger I used to have Deja Vu moments. Something would happen, usually quite insignificant in itself, where I would suddenly realise that what I have just experienced rings a bell and that I have experienced it before - only I haven't, if you see what I mean. It could be someone saying something, and literally on a few seconds, but it left me cold because I HAD been there before.
@ Ratter, yes I know all about James Randi, however as far as my premonitions are concerned, I cannot conjure them up or know when they will occur, it's not something that one can experience at will or they never have been for me. If that were the case then surely I would win or know when I would win the lottery. These things happen when least expecting it, and in the case of my friends sister, I hadn't seen her or spoken to her for years and my friend hadn't mentioned her previously to my premonition so it was in fact out of the blue as have been the many that have occurred to me over the years.
If only it were so simple to do things the James Randi way and I'm sure that he and others like him (Richard Wiseman for one) have exposed many charlotans in the way of mediums et al. I don't profess my premonitions to be mediumistic, in fact I don't know why they occur that's why I wonder if somewhere "out there" the future actually exists and some people subconsciously tap into it. Weird old world isn't it and if only we knew all the answers <smile>.
I'm sure others are right about the subconscious brain because we just don't know how much it comes into play in our waking thoughts.
Interesting subject though and when it happens to you, it's strange to know that sometimes what you've just thought or "seen" comes true.

classylady60, get a notebook and make a list of the premonitions you experience.
Then, in a separate column, tick off those which have "come true". And be honest about it.
Then others will be able to judge whether it is just coincidence or something worth investigating. So far you have told us only of one.

@ chakka I will try to remember that re the notebook (I'm nothing if not honest believe me - too honest for my own good as people will tell you), the only thing is I don't know what is a premonition and what isn't, so I would have to write down every single thought that comes into my mind...phew would I have enough hours in the day lol. I didn't want to hog this thread I wanted to know if others experienced similar things so was looking to hear from others about their experiences. Some of the things that have happened to me are very trivial but have happened just as I've thought...like letters arriving from people, car problems (well accidents actually), what people are going to say or do...just a mish mash of things which always surprise me when they happen after I've thought of them.
my little lad has a few times. this was one that i posted about http://www.theanswerb...k/Question719810.html
Yes very strange red, they say children are more "psychic/knowing" because they aren't old enough to be influenced by adults thoughts et al. I find it amazing how things happen that we have thought of previously and as a child it happened lots to me too but I felt it was natural to everyone. Twice in the last 18 months I have been in car accidents (luckily no one injured) when both those times I did NOT want to drive the car tho had little choice. I was adamant that I'd rather not drive but didn't know why I felt that way as I've driven thousands of miles over the years, I didn't have a scene play out or anything it was just the feeling that if I could avoid it I shouldn't get into the car. Thank goodness you listen to little crx, I think that's a good thing to do, just wish I'd listened to myself those times as it would have saved a lot of hassle and expense!
little crx is older now and doesnt do it so much. Last one was a diversion and he said it had been a motorcyclist who had hurt his leg and was being put in an ambulance, a few days later i read in paper and he was right. i agree with it being mainly children and that they do grow out of it as us adults often dismiss things as being sill. But as an investigator in a paranormal team i would hope that i wouldnt ridicule anything that my children said that was outside the "normal" way of thinking.
I reckon a diary would be a good idea for you, see what does come true over time. I once saw a website where someone was posting such premonitions in a blog.

A few things have happened, and I just put it down to coincidence. I remember Lying to my grandparents (I know it wasn't clever etc, but young and 'in love'). But I was late getting home, so I rung them saying that there had been an accident and it must have been bad as the road had been closed off and traffic was being diverted back to the motorway. I got to the road and there had been accident, as I described, the next day it was found that someone I went to school with had died in that accident. I felt so bad about lying about it! :( xx
I suspect there are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy. But it is difficult to get objective proof on which is why some smug folk like to offer prizes, safe in the knowledge that the challenge is unlikely to be taken up. Congrats if you do have some sort of gift CL60. And even if it is just mistaken interpretation it is something of interest, yes ?
OG...not professing this to be a gift, just a statement of fact that has happened on and off over many years and something I've never taken for granted but always questioned. I think it is of interest yes, because if any of us "see" or "know" something that actually comes true sometime hence then I question if the future then already exists. I cannot even believe that by thinking of something and it coming true that we have actually caused it to happen. To me it could be something to do with tapping into the future without even knowing it....can't offer anything else than that so I wanted to hear if others had experienced it and if anyone had any ideas to "throw into the ring".
Ah sum over histories. And I suspect futures too in the other direction.
I have a suspicion that all possible pasts and futures, and indeed presents, actually exist in some form, but I can not begin to start working out how. And that we have the personal experience of the illusion of passing from one moment to another in sequence. If this is so, then yes the future does exist, but so does the vast number of other possible but less likely futures that you will not experience.
