What is religion & what is spirituality?
When we read the word spirituality as used in the Bible, it refers to a persons attitude or approach to life.
More and more people see a distinction between religion and spirituality. As many religious organisations are entangled in politics and moral hypocrisy, drenched in much innocent blood from countless religious wars this has resulted in rejection of these religious entities that are sullied by hypocrisy and deception. However in doing so they have made the mistake of also rejecting the Bible because they think it condones such practices.
The one thing that cannot be denied is that religion is responsible for many of the problems that exist.
But the Bible is not about religion.
If the religious leaders, and I include all the vicars, priests , lay readers, bishops etc.etc. took note and put into practice what the Bible has to say, then these problems would not exist. But they have put their own interpretation on the Bible and thus given people the wrong idea. The prophet Jeremiah prophesied about these ones, they being just as the priests in his day. Jeremiah 6 v 13 & 14 -
13 “For from the least one of them even to the greatest one of them, every one is making for himself unjust gain; and from the prophet even to the priest, each one is acting falsely. 14 And they try to heal the breakdown of my people lightly, saying, ‘There is peace! There is peace!’ when there is no peace.
But the day is coming when they will be judged and found wanting. Hence the warning in Revelation 18 v 4 - 7:
4 And I heard another voice out of heaven say: “Get out of her, my people, if YOU do not want to share with her in her sins, and if YOU do not want to receive part of her plagues. 5 For her sins have massed together clear up to heaven, and God has called her acts of injustice to mind. 6 Render to her even as she herself rendered, and do to her twice as much, yes, twice the number of the things she did; in the cup in which she put a mixture put twice as much of the mixture for her. 7 To the extent that she glorified herself and lived in shameless luxury, to that extent give her torment and mourning. For in her heart she keeps saying, ‘I sit a queen, and I am no widow, and I shall never see mourning.’ 8 That is why in one day her plagues will come, death and mourning and famine, and she will be completely burned with fire, because Jehovah God, who judged her, is strong.
