Out of pure curiosity can an adult convert to Catholicism? If so what steps need to be taken (christening / confirmation / catechism classes etc)

Well Tony Blair and Anne Widdecombe both have, so it is quite possible.

However look at Stephen Fry on Youtube extolling his views on the Catholic Church and you might reconsider.

Ahh no hopkirk I'm not gonna convert anyway... I was just curious as I know alot of "steps" need to be taken first (eg confirmation) unlike say becoming a Methodist for example.
Yes they can - simply contact your local Parish Priest.

Mamylyn if someone did convert what ceremonies would they need to do? For eg: I was christened in Catholic Church but never had confirmation or much catechism classes ... What would an ADULT need to do?

Great! I posted my q before I saw your message.
:-)
Just being curious, but why the horns, mamya?
it is a biggish deal

first stop - parish priest - erm choose a Catholic one !
then you undergo a course of instruction...
what happens if you dont like it ? you say well Father....

and then and then (but not like the next week) you attend Mass
and then at the end in front of the congregation - affirm your belief in the teachings of the Bishop of Rome.

Princess Di was the most famous non convert. She chose the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster as her first point of contact. We ARE a church of sinners but her sins proved too burdensome for even the famously forgiving Cardinal. There was also the suspicion that she was doing it solely to disoblige the Prince of Wales.

Fun rituals - esp if you become cardinal or Pope !

Sacraments - such as christening - ask an expert - the Pope is gonna have some time on his hands they say. Thorny issue as basically holy orders of Anglicans are not recognised by catholics but are recognised the other way round. Big doctrinal issue - Idont think it is a big deal for Prots to take communion in a catholic church but my G+ the priests throw the furniture around when they find out.
Cupid, just a little whimsical Valentines nod.

Very good informative ..,and entertaining lol... Answer Peter!
Good answer Peter with one glaring inaccuracy. The "coming home" vows do not have to be taken in front of the whole congregation at Mass.
I too am having a whimsical valentine smile or rather an Ash Wednesday one here Mamya.
p s How is the knitting coming on ?
So you don't really have to lick a cat then? :o/
Yes you can, and chaps don't have to be circumcised, as with a couple of other religions I could mention. so, one advantage straight from the start !
Come to that,nor do women.
true
The usual smattering of anti Roman Catholic inanities. Grow up.
^^ Ha ha! Got to laugh when adults who still depend childishly on invisible friends tell others to grow up. ;o)
