//Pope Francis was mobbed by a group of overexcited nuns, let out from their convents during his visit to Naples.

Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe could be heard through the microphone urging restraint and making lighthearted commentary in a Neapolitan accent.
“Sisters . . . Later. . . . well would you look at that. And these are the cloistered ones. Just imagine the non-cloistered ones,” he said, provoking laughter among the crowd gathered in the cathedral.
“They are going to eat him! Sisters . . sisters!” //

tamborine, nuns are not unique. Many people do that, religious or otherwise. That doesn’t make Stephen Fry an idiot. I suspect he’s done rather more for charity than you have.
I know you had a hard time Cara & can understand your despise. Am not a practising RC, meaning am not on my knees in chirch. But the core of the RC faith (not bible) still lingers.
I was a believing Catholic when my kids started school. They are free to make their minds up but I was hardly going to pull them out of school because I decided that 'I' don't believe in God.

When you've been indoctrinated what do you expect?
Naomi, agreed many now follow in the church footsteps.

Cya l8er....work calls.
ummm, scolastically, I did well with the nuns. In those days we had no choice but to study hard and their punishments were severe if they felt we were not trying hard enough to succeed. It was the constant reminder that "God" was watching our every move and that should he see something he didn't like, we would be struck down and punished. That was what made life so difficult. My parents had sent me to this school because they had been told it was the best in all of Germany at the time, not because it was a RC school. I don't blame my parents. They just wanted to give me the best they could. But the day my father found out what was going on, he left work, drove an hour and a half to the convent and took me out. I loved my father dearly and cannot describe how I felt when he arrived. He was my hero!
Sadly many do follow in the footsteps of the Church, Tambo.....which is why the abuse is still with us today.....Mother Teresa and her nuns being and example of the abuse of power over the poor and destitute.

Amen. An Autobiography of a Nun....is an enlightening read.
Your story, and many others, is very sad, Cara.

Thankfully the school I attended didn't try and brainwash us. I suspect most of the teachers were pretty crap Catholics anyway. I really don't remember religion ever being mentioned outside an RS lesson.
