I honestly dont mean this in any derogatory or offensive way (and I hope other ABers dont turn this into such a thread as its a serious question)
But as a muslim, how would you tackle the issue of muslim extremists killing innocent 'westerners'...Tunisia, 7/7 etc?
What is the general view of muslims concerning these issues?
Thanks in advance and please dont let this question slide into personal attacks.

Sorry to name you personally keyplus but as far as I can ascertain, you're the only muslim on here. Thanks.
A very difficult and complex question, owing to religion crossing national boundaries. There are precedents. After all, Roman Catholics generally didn't take any action re the IRA (in fact in NY they actively supported them) - and they murdered and maimed far more "innocent" than ISIS have (so far).

But note we never bombed their home base country.
I didn't intend contributing to this thread - at least not yet, but ....

//and they [the IRA] murdered and maimed far more "innocent" than ISIS have (so far). //

Are you kidding, Canary? And please stop comparing Islam to Catholicism - politically or otherwise. There is no comparison whatsoever.

All very true canary, which is exactly why I would like the view of a present day muslim concerning recent events. And as far as I am aware Keyplus is the only muslim on AB at present.
Ive known a few muslims in the past and I'm pretty certain that they would be horrified by recent events committed in their name but the question is how would they go about preventing it?
Question Author
Why is there no comparision naomi?
Both factions killed other people with impunity in the name of religious belief.
Again, dont want to descend into personal attacks, just trying to understand the 'politics' of it all, and interested in all sides. Thanks
nailit, it's true that many in the US supported the IRA, but I doubt very much that the IRA have killed more innocent people than ISIS have.

Incidentally, there are other Muslims on here. I've no idea whether or not they'll raise their heads on this one.
nailit, the IRA didn't kill in the name of religious belief. Their grievance was political.
According to Wiki (citing sources) under 2,000 killed by the Provos of whom 1000 were British Armour RUC.
Wiki doesn't mention how many Protestant ministers were crucified by the IRA, nor how many Prozzy girls they captured and sold as sex slaves south of the border.
the whole muslim population have not been outspoken enough in these instances !!!

why ? because as written in quran that muslims should not live side by side with the non believers/infidels i.e non muslims .

nailit. doesnt mohammed tell you all to decieve the non believer ? true or not , as wriiten in your book in black and white.
Do you work for CAGE, Canary?
Question Author
Ok, thanks for that naomi, I'll agree that Islamic fundamentalists have probably killed more people than the IRA have but it isnt about how many but how to prevent any more?
Would be interested to hear how many more muslims there are on here.
Garbled my 19.07 post:
1100 (out of 1900) were Army or RUC.

//nailit, the IRA didn't kill in the name of religious belief. Their grievance was political.//
Seems to me that the lines become blurred when religion/politics are involved.
ISIS ... IS political as well as religious.
Question Author
//It is not the job of the peaceful majority of any religion to remove extremists and terrorists - just to report them to their Govenment.//
And thats just about the gist of this post. Are 'ordinary' muslims reporting their extremists? Or would they see it as 'grassing' on their own?
//Seems to me that the lines become blurred when religion/politics are involved.//

Not where Islam is concerned. The IRA terrorists weren't motivated by Catholicism - they were motivated by politics - but ISIS is motivated solely by Islam.
Naomi24: > "And please stop comparing Islam to Catholicism - politically or otherwise. There is no comparison whatsoever. "

It would be hard to be any more dogmatic than that.

It would be interesting to hear a reply from Canary42, as I thought Canary42 was saying "Roman Catholics have killed and maimed a greater number of 'innocents' than ISIS."
//It would be hard to be any more dogmatic than that. //

Not dogmatic. True.
Being in Turkey at the moment I can say that the subject is a hot topic over here too. All of the bar / restaurant owners I've talked to (they bring the subject up BTW) condemn the actions being done in the name of religion.
Nalit, any answer to your question from Keyplus would be rather meaningless using a sample of 1 person. I don't know what you intend to learn from it.
A consideration or estimate of the similarities or dissimilarities between two things or people:

the act of comparing two or more people or things:

the act of looking at things to see how they are similar or different

interesting comparison of 3 different dictionaries defining the same word.
