Occult Religions

Anyone here had any experiences with occult based religious beliefs or personally knew anyone who was involved with such? (such as Wicca, Paganism, or various magickal practices).
Ive known a few people over the years...mostly Wiccans... who have been, and they have been some of the most down to Earth, lovely people that you could meet. A far cry from the horror stories perpetrated by Christians that getting involved in the occult leads to death, insanity etc.
Personally, I have no belief in the occult (though in the past its something that I have looked into).

Theland- I get a sense of peace and my place in the very big picture, an understanding that no specific pre-ordained path is necessarily right or wrong, some order out of chaos, a closeness with those I love and a sense that when I end it's not actually the end of everything but that even if it were it really doesn't matter- the universe continues to exist and me with it just in a different form.
What do you get out of yours?

I study scripture and criticised for not studying in a different way. Is that wrong?

I think that is one of the great keys that ability to find your place in space and time, to know what has been and not fear what will come. The sense of oneness with everything knowing you have blood that flows like a river like all rivers, that as a woman you will follow a moon cycle for much of your life, that we are infinitely small yet we still have a place within the whole.

Trivializing something like that comes across as fearful. If I make a joke the nasty 'witches' won't teach me there is a different path. One that doesn't need gods, where your humanity is enough.

Whatever route we take to find our inner peace, as long as we don't hurt others and our path allows us space to think and grow - then it doesn't matter if it came from a script or from the air.

Rowan - With the greatest of respect, I simply do not understand the touchy feely approach to Wicca, tree hugging, and all the on the list you posted.
I really respect you Rowan, and I am not looking for an excuse to criticise.

Sex magick, oh crikey Theland, so many different types and uses for it, from Tantric sex ( mind you that's technically Hindu- so that's another tangent of belief systems really) where you literally try to synchronise everything about yourselves, breathing together etc to become hyper aware of your partner, very long, slow and sensual, can involve minutes at a time where you are just pressed together skin to skin with no movement to establish a really intimate connection with your partner ( much like newborn babies bind with their parents from skin to skin contact) and great for huge energy building which if you do spellcraft can be useful.
Most things are obviously very private and this won't be a step by step guide but generally the goal is to become as close as physically and emotionally possible with your lover in innocence and perfect love and perfect trust, so you are literally the embodiment of the The Lord and of The Lady (of whichever path you follow- or indeed those equally works for gay couples, but for us it was that), so the ultimate balance if you like. Your coming together should be peaceful and spectacular and actually really mean something to you both which will stay with you forever. Clearly this isn't every time you have sex, just when you want to push the boat out so to speak :) Goodle it there's a ton of things on sex magick I'm sure. x

Being part of creation is not tree hugging, I really like trees for both their aesthetic value and the benefits they bring as a result of their life cycles and photosynthesis etc. Not because I see them as having spirits. I am not touchy feely just because I believe in interconnectedness on a planet wide scale does not mean I commune with the web of life, i just interact with the bits that matter to me. So I feed the birds on my balcony I don't try to feed every bird in the neighbour hood. I help where I can because I believe it is right to do so. I try not to send anger out in the world. I accept responsibility for my actions ... I just try to live in a fully human way

Yes do the good you can do and try to do no ill in a nutshell, and accept your place in the universe and all that goes on around you in the very big scheme of things. Try to establish and inner peace and thus an outer one.

We can all swing from chandeliers Theland, it's not that at all, in fact people have been doing this very thing for millenia, but it's a different type of sex than just having great sex, it's establishing a very thorough and very deep emotional and spiritual connection with a human that you have chosen and that has chosen you on a higher level than the purely physical. x

Even solo sex can be used to generate additional energy that can be sent with positive intent. Remember what we do generates minute electrical currents, just suppose you could send them like a wave out into the world charged with intent. Waves can travel long distances , isn't that what other religions call prayer, sending thoughts with positive intent.

Kval, I think we would get on well in the real world. Some things are just so much easier when you open your mind and being to what we can do. You are maiden, I am crone, green shoot of spring and twisted bone. Although i have never been in the image of the mother I use her attributes in creative work, but my middle years were spent trying to avoid being the other one. Not always easy.
